Factory Valuation Jumps to $5 Billion

$200 Million Funding Round More Than Triples AI Coding Startup’s Valuation

AI coding startup Factory has raised $200 million in its latest funding round, pushing the company’s valuation to $5 billion and more than tripling its valuation within five months. The funding highlights continued investor interest in AI-powered software development tools as businesses look to improve productivity and automate engineering tasks.

The latest round was backed by investors including Blackstone, Khosla Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, Evantic Capital and Sound Ventures, among others. Factory had previously raised $150 million at a $1.5 billion valuation in April 2026, making the latest valuation a significant increase in a relatively short period.

Founded in 2023 by Matan Grinberg and Eno Reyes, San Francisco-based Factory develops AI agents designed for enterprise software teams. Its platform allows companies to use AI agents to build, test and maintain software, positioning the startup within the rapidly expanding market for AI-assisted coding.

Factory is competing in an increasingly crowded AI coding market, alongside platforms such as Cognition and Cursor. Cognition, another AI coding company, raised $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation earlier in September, reflecting the scale of investment flowing into AI software development.

The funding comes as AI-assisted coding becomes one of the prominent applications of generative AI. Companies are increasingly exploring AI agents that can handle broader software-development tasks rather than simply providing code suggestions to individual developers. Factory said it is seeing enterprises move toward using software-development agents as part of their wider engineering infrastructure.

The company has also been expanding its enterprise focus and international presence. Factory says its AI agents, known as Droids, are being used by enterprise development teams, while its recent company updates show expansion into markets such as Japan.

The rapid rise in Factory’s valuation comes amid both strong investment in AI and growing discussion about the pace and impact of the technology. While businesses are looking to AI coding tools for productivity gains, industry leaders have also raised concerns about the risks associated with increasingly capable AI systems.
