Delhi Airport Reopens Third Runway
The upgraded runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport is set to resume operations after safety inspections, validations and regulatory clearances.
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is set to reopen its third runway for operations from September 20 after completing a major rehabilitation and upgrade project.
The upgraded runway has undergone required inspections, validations and regulatory clearances and is now ready for operational use, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said.
The rehabilitation work began in February and included strengthening and upgrading the runway to improve operational safety, efficiency, resilience and long-term capacity at one of India’s busiest aviation gateways.
The airport’s third runway was originally commissioned in 2008. Its return to service is expected to add operational capacity as flight movements continue to be managed across the airport’s runway network.
The development comes as Delhi airport continues infrastructure upgrades aimed at supporting growing passenger and aircraft traffic.
