The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), through its IndiaAI Mission, has opened applications for the IndiaAI Fellowship Programme 2026–27. The initiative aims to support students pursuing artificial intelligence-related projects and research, with financial assistance available across undergraduate, integrated dual degree, postgraduate and doctoral categories.

Eligible undergraduate and integrated dual degree students can receive financial support of up to ₹1 lakh, while postgraduate students may receive up to ₹2 lakh, depending on their academic stage and the programme’s conditions. Applications are being accepted through the official IndiaAI Fellowship portal.

The application deadline is November 30, 2026. Applicants are advised to review the eligibility criteria, required documents and submission guidelines for their specific academic category before applying.

For undergraduate applicants, the programme covers a range of disciplines, including engineering, science, medicine, law, commerce, business and liberal arts, provided the proposed work is related to artificial intelligence. Candidates must meet the prescribed academic requirements and have completed the required AI-related coursework.

Postgraduate applicants must be enrolled in eligible full-time programmes and satisfy the academic criteria specified in the fellowship guidelines. Selection requirements vary by semester and include academic performance and the relevance of the proposed research.

The programme also provides support for eligible PhD researchers. The monthly fellowship is ₹70,000 for the first two years, ₹75,000 in the third year and ₹80,000 in the fourth and fifth years. Eligible research scholars may additionally receive a research grant of up to ₹2 lakh per year, subject to the scheme’s conditions.

Students whose AI research papers are accepted at qualifying international conferences with an h5 rating above 100 may also be eligible for one-time financial support of up to ₹1 lakh towards travel and accommodation expenses.

Interested candidates can access the application process and detailed guidelines at fellowship.indiaai.gov.in. Applicants should ensure their academic records, research details and required institutional endorsements are complete before submitting their applications.
