RBI Opens Cybersecurity Institute In Bhubaneswar
The new Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute aim to strengthen banking infrastructure, digital resilience and expertise against emerging cyber threats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s newly established Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on October 25, 2026. The two facilities are intended to strengthen the country’s financial infrastructure and improve its ability to address growing cybersecurity risks.
The inauguration marks an expansion of the infrastructure supporting India’s banking system as digital transactions and online financial services become increasingly important. The Data Centre is intended to support the RBI’s computing and digital infrastructure requirements, while the training institute will focus on building cybersecurity capabilities.
Speaking at the event, Modi stressed that protecting the financial system from cybercriminals and cyberterrorists is essential as India’s economy becomes more digitally connected. He said that evolving threats require modern infrastructure, updated training methods and skilled professionals rather than outdated systems and tools.
The Prime Minister noted that digital banking has expanded access to financial services, allowing people to use banking facilities around the clock. Greater reliance on digital platforms, however, also increases the importance of protecting financial data, maintaining service reliability and preparing institutions to respond to cyber incidents.
The Cybersecurity Training Institute is expected to contribute to the development of specialised skills for identifying and responding to emerging digital threats. Such training is important for financial institutions as attackers increasingly target digital systems, sensitive information and critical infrastructure.
The new facilities are also part of a wider effort to strengthen the resilience of India’s financial system. Reliable computing infrastructure and trained cybersecurity personnel can help institutions improve preparedness, manage operational risks and maintain confidence in digital banking services.
The inauguration places Odisha within India’s expanding digital and financial infrastructure ecosystem. During the event, Modi also highlighted the state’s potential to develop beyond its traditional mineral-based industries through sectors such as electronics, semiconductors, data centres and advanced computing.
The establishment of the facilities reflects the growing importance of cybersecurity as a component of financial stability. Their long-term contribution will depend on effective implementation, continued investment in technology and training, and coordination among institutions responsible for safeguarding India’s banking infrastructure.
