India Post has crossed the ₹4,000 crore quarterly revenue milestone for two consecutive quarters for the first time, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on October 22, 2026. The Department of Posts reported revenue of approximately ₹4,202 crore for the July-September quarter, marking a significant increase from the corresponding period last year.

Revenue rose 25 per cent year-on-year from ₹3,355 crore in the second quarter of the previous financial year. The latest figure also represented an increase of around 5 per cent over the preceding quarter, according to the minister.

Parcel services were the strongest growth driver, recording a 71 per cent year-on-year increase. Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance together grew 44 per cent, while international business expanded by 38 per cent, reflecting increased activity across several of India Post’s commercial services.

Revenue for the first half of the 2026-27 financial year reached approximately ₹8,212.7 crore, up 24 per cent from ₹6,636 crore in the same period a year earlier. The performance indicates continued expansion across the department’s business activities.

The department also reported an improvement in its expenditure coverage ratio, a measure of how much expenditure is covered by revenue. The ratio reached 62 per cent when pension expenditure was excluded, compared with 54 per cent in the second quarter of the previous financial year. Including pension expenditure, the ratio stood at 42 per cent.

Scindia highlighted the performance of postal circles, particularly Bihar, West Bengal and the North East, which exceeded expectations across multiple business areas. The department has also recognised circles that achieved strong results against their quarterly business targets.

The Ministry of Communications said the next phase of growth would focus on acquiring and retaining customers, diversifying services, improving operational efficiency and accelerating digitalisation. Officials also stressed the need to improve parcel delivery timelines and strengthen customer service.

India Post plans to build on demand during the festive and peak parcel season while expanding international business, financial inclusion and logistics services for micro, small and medium enterprises. Sustaining the current growth rate while improving service quality and financial performance will remain central to the department’s strategy.
