Kumkum Mohod celebrates her women's individual recurve archery gold at the 2026 Asian Games.

Indian archer Kumkum Mohod won gold in the women's individual recurve event at the 2026 Asian Games on October 3, defeating South Korea's Oh Yejin in a dramatic shoot-off. The 17-year-old prevailed after the final was tied at 5-5, shooting a 10 with her final arrow while Oh scored 8.

The victory made Mohod the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve medal at the Asian Games. It also secured an Olympic quota place for India at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. The quota belongs to the country rather than to the individual athlete.

Mohod reached the final after defeating China's Jingyi Zhu 6-2 in the semifinal. That result had already assured India of a quota place for the 2028 Olympics and guaranteed Mohod at least a silver medal. Earlier in the competition, she defeated reigning world champion Kang Chaeyoung of South Korea 6-4 in the quarterfinal.

The individual gold was Mohod's third medal at the Asian Games. She had earlier won gold in the women's recurve team event alongside Ankita Bhakat and Kirti Sharma, and silver in the mixed team event with Dhiraj Bommadevara.

Mohod's performance added a significant milestone to India's archery campaign and ended the country's long wait for an Asian Games individual recurve medal in the women's event. Her shoot-off victory over Oh Yejin capped a competition in which she defeated leading archers from South Korea and China.
