India Reaches 55 Medals on Day 12
Twin compound archery golds lifted India to 8 gold, 21 silver and 26 bronze medals as the country moved to ninth in the standings.
India moved up to ninth place in the Asian Games 2026 medal standings on Day 12 after a strong start in Aichi-Nagoya. The country had 55 medals — 8 gold, 21 silver and 26 bronze — according to the Indian Express update published on September 30.
India opened Day 12 with two gold medals in compound archery. The women's team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Thaniparthi defeated China 238-234 in the final, with the score equalling the world record in the event. Chikitha Thaniparthi and Sahil Jadhav then won gold in the mixed compound team event after beating Korea in a shoot-off.
MEDAL TALLY
India's Day 12 tally stood at 8 gold, 21 silver and 26 bronze medals, giving the country 55 medals overall and ninth place in the standings.
The two archery victories added to India's medal haul from the previous days. On Day 11, Neeru Dhanda won gold in women's individual trap shooting, while India's women's 4x400m relay team also secured gold with a time of 3:29.69.
India's shooting campaign has contributed several medals, including Neeru Dhanda's individual trap gold and team silver, while athletics has also produced a substantial share of the country's haul. Gulveer Singh won silver in both the 10,000m and 1,500m and bronze in the 5,000m, becoming the first Indian to win three middle- and long-distance medals at a single Asian Games.
ARCHERY DOUBLE
India's compound archers won two gold medals on Day 12, with the women's team defeating China 238-234 and the mixed team overcoming Korea in a shoot-off.
India's medal winners have come from a broad range of sports, including kabaddi, cricket, shooting, athletics, weightlifting, wushu, rowing, badminton, squash, table tennis and mixed martial arts. The men's and women's kabaddi teams and the women's cricket team have already won gold medals.
The Indian Express tally noted that the bronze count included a boxing medal awaiting formal confirmation at the time of its update. Narender Berwal had secured a bronze in the men's heavyweight category after losing his semifinal, bringing India's calculated tally to 55 medals.
