Crude Oil Falls as Russian Supply Outlook Improves

Crude oil prices declined on October 13 as traders weighed the possibility of additional Russian diesel supplies against renewed supply risks following attacks on Saudi Arabia and concerns over Gulf shipping routes.

Crude oil barrels and an oil tanker represent falling prices amid Russian supply prospects and Middle East tensions.

However, the outlook remains uncertain. Recent attacks on Saudi Arabian targets, including an incident involving Riyadh’s international airport, and reported tanker attacks near the Strait of Hormuz have heightened concerns about the security of critical energy infrastructure and shipping lanes.

Market participants remain divided over whether potential Russian supplies will be enough to offset geopolitical risks. Higher shipping and insurance costs are also complicating the movement of crude oil and petroleum products.

Meanwhile, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) lowered its forecast for global oil demand growth this year to 400,000 barrels per day, down from 1.4 million barrels per day at the start of the year.

Oil prices are likely to remain sensitive to developments in the Middle East, the availability of Russian fuel supplies and changes in global demand expectations.
