REI Expo 2026 Eyes ₹2,800 Crore Investment

Indian Biogas Association expects the upcoming Renewable Energy India Expo to unlock more than ₹2,800 crore in fresh bioenergy investment as India accelerates compressed biogas and circular-energy projects.

The upcoming Renewable Energy India Expo 2026 could unlock more than ₹2,800 crore in fresh investment for India's bioenergy sector, according to the Indian Biogas Association.

The three-day REI Expo is scheduled to take place from October 22 to 24 at the India Expo Mart & Centre in Greater Noida, bringing together investors, developers, technology providers, startups and policymakers from the renewable-energy industry.

The projected ₹2,800 crore investment pipeline is equivalent to nearly 12% of the ₹23,731 crore GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme outlay, according to the association.

BIOENERGY INVESTMENT SNAPSHOT
₹2,800+ crore — Expected fresh investment pipeline
₹23,731 crore — GOBARdhan scheme outlay
Nearly 12% — Expo pipeline as a share of scheme outlay
October 22–24 — REI Expo 2026 in Greater Noida

The Indian Biogas Association said biogas will be a major focus of this year's event as the industry seeks to convert recent policy support into commercially scalable projects.

The policy backdrop has strengthened following the Union Cabinet's approval of the ₹23,731 crore GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme in August 2026. The scheme took effect on September 1.

The programme aims to increase India's domestic compressed biogas production nearly tenfold, attract large-scale private investment and develop a wider circular bioeconomy.

Among its key provisions is an administered CBG price of ₹2,110 per MMBtu, along with assured offtake mandates for the CNG and PNG segments.

The scheme also provides capital assistance of up to ₹2 crore per tonne-per-day for greenfield CBG plants, alongside support for pipeline infrastructure and credit guarantees.

GOBARdhan SUPPORT
₹2,110/MMBtu administered CBG price
Capital assistance of up to ₹2 crore per TPD for eligible greenfield CBG plants
Assured offtake mandates for CNG and PNG segments

The Bio-Energy Pavilion at REI Expo 2026 is expected to be its largest yet, with the association saying the number of exhibitors will be 35% higher than in 2025.

The pavilion will showcase technologies across waste-to-energy, compressed biogas, co-digestion and digital monitoring, with participation expected from international technology companies, startups and policymakers.

It is being supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The wider REI Expo is expected to attract more than 70,000 participants from around the world and cover renewable-energy segments including solar, wind, hydrogen, e-mobility, energy storage and bioenergy.

Indian Biogas Association President A R Shukla said the sector is increasingly moving beyond its traditional association with rural applications and becoming part of India's broader clean-energy economy.

The association estimates that India has the potential to generate more than 62 million tonnes of compressed biogas annually, creating opportunities to reduce fuel imports while developing new agricultural, waste-management and energy value chains.

However, the ₹2,800 crore figure represents an expected investment pipeline linked to the Expo rather than investment already finalised or deployed.

The October event will therefore be an important test of how much of the growing policy and investor interest in India's bioenergy sector translates into actual projects and capital commitments.
