Amazon Eyes $7 Billion Decart Acquisition

Amazon is reportedly in talks to acquire AI startup Decart for around $7 billion, seeking technology that could help developers run artificial intelligence workloads across different chips and strengthen its custom AI chip business.

Amazon and Decart AI technology represent a proposed $7 billion acquisition amid competition in AI chips and computing infrastructure.

San Francisco-based Decart develops software that helps developers optimise AI models for different processors and move workloads between chip platforms. This technology could complement Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) custom AI chips, including its Trainium processors, by making it easier for customers to run AI workloads on Amazon’s infrastructure.

The startup is also developing AI models capable of generating and simulating three-dimensional environments. Its Lucy model supports real-time video editing, while Oasis generates simulated environments that can be used to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems.

Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May 2026 and has raised more than $400 million from investors, including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Radical Ventures, according to reports citing PitchBook data. Nvidia also participated in a funding round announced in May.

Amazon has been expanding its custom AI chip portfolio through AWS as it seeks to compete with Nvidia in the market for processors used to train and run AI models. AWS reportedly gave Decart early access to its Trainium3 chip in 2025, indicating that the companies had established a relationship before the reported acquisition discussions.

Decart had also reportedly been considered for acquisition by Anthropic, which explored a potential deal valued at around $6 billion before deciding not to proceed after due diligence.

The proposed Amazon acquisition remains unconfirmed, and discussions could still change. If completed at the reported valuation, the transaction would be among Amazon’s largest acquisitions and highlight the increasing importance of software that helps companies manage the cost and complexity of AI computing.
